Beware

Visa is required for all visitors to Nigeria. Visa can be acquired from Nigerian Embassies or Consular Offices within days.

Visitors to Nigeria are required to take malaria immunization as advised by the World Health Organisation [WHO]

The Nigerian currency is Naira. Visitors may bring any amount of foreign currency abut are required to make customs declaration. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels and restaurants. For current exchange rates check our home page.

Personal effects including binoculars, cameras are allowed duty free. Visitors are also allowed 4 litres of alcoholic beverages and 200 cigarettes duty free. Visitors may export souvenirs, although some articles [eg animal skin and antiques] require export permit. Illegal drugs of all descriptions are not allowed. 

Nigeria is one hour ahead of GMT. 

Electricity in Nigeria is 220 – 240 volts, however most hotel have outlets for 110 volts for electric shavers. 

The official language is English used at all levels of administrative, law commerce and education. Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba are the major ethnic languages spoken in Nigeria. 

Photography is allowed, but for security reasons, some installations such as military bases, museums, taking photographs may not be allowed. 

Light weight clothing is ideal during the day, while in the evenings, especially during harmattan cardigans and warm clothes are more ideal. 

Locally made products and souvenirs are available at reasonable prices. Other items could also be picked from departmental stores.

Banks and business services are open between the hours of 8.00am to 5.00pm on weekdays. Saturday banking services are also available by some banks. 

Government offices are opened between 8.00am to 4.00pm.on weekdays
